| Early May 2012 Drifting for Smallmouth Presque Isle Bay: ,
Posted by: Captain Ron Rusch Date Posted: 22:15:31 5/10/12 |
| Early May finds excellent smallmouth fishing in the bay waters. The bay is heated much quicker than the lake. Here also is a good place for the smallmouth to be in an area of less gobies for the spawn. Monday the 7th found great fishing drifting large golden shiners on the flats just near the drop offs. Fish were jumping and fighting making smiling faces. The average size was around 18 inches. The bay also holds many large mouth bass of which we caught one good size bucket mouth. The morning drizzle came to an end and the fish catching action increased with many doubles and even a triple. Tight Lines Captain Ron 800-784-1232 |

| My Buddy and I spent the whole day on the lakeform 8 am till 8 pm, and it even seemes longer. We started out at the bridge and worked our way south, toward the shallower waters of maryland. we started out jigging bubblegum colored jigs in the shallow bays, hit 3 or 4 of the bays thouroughly, but it was to no avail, we casted and trolled all of the without a hit. I was very dissapointed with the results, I marked fish on the hummingbird, but the marked fish were few and far between. We used Nightcrawlers and leeches, and were targeting the bays, and the mouth of the bays hoping to find the fish in the warmer waters. The yough has always been a tough place for me to fish i think i Have about 5 or six keepers on the 8 or 9 time i have fished there. If anyone has advice for me please e mail me, but i am really losing faith in the yough, it is a beautifl lake but the fishing there is so tough. Thanks JD Ramsey |

| This site will sure miss Joe Russell and his reports on Pymatuning Lake. I was out this weekend and while I was jinxed, my partenr did very well. We fish the area just out from the Ohio St park campground. From where we were we could see probably 20 or more fishermen on both sides of the lake. We took in 4 nice walleye on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. All nice size 18-19" and one that was better than 22. Best times seem to be 1-1/2 houres before sunset and 1-1/2 hours after sunrise. Ice is about 8" since the layer of snow insulates the ice layer otherwise it would probably be a bit thicker. |

| Joe, Never had the pleasure of meeting you or being fined or checked by ya (ha,ha). I've relied on your reports to travel from Ohio to enjoy Pa fishing. I'm originally from New Castle, Pa and have a cabin in Marienville. I fish and hunt both states. Your reports have saved me a lot of driving and given me key times to hit different streams and lakes. Your a good cop, and a gentleman. Thanks |

| WESTERN CRAWFORD COUNTY, WCO Joe Russell The cold weather is a great time for tying flys. Pymatuning/ Conneaut Lake: Still not much fishing pressure this week but we have had some pretty severe storms at times with heavy rains and extremely high winds. We even had the first snow of the year this last week so it has not been that conducive to fishing. Now would be a good time to get that boat ready for next year and make sure everything is in shape for the upcoming season. If you store your boat outside also don’t forget to pull your fire extinguisher inside since changes in temperatures over the winter can drastically shorten its life. My Final Report: |

| WESTERN CRAWFORD COUNTY, WCO Joe Russell Pymatuning Lake, Conneaut Lake: An oversight has been brought to my attention that requires my apology and correction. Don’t forget to Pack for that fishing or hunting trip in advance, if you are planning on coming out to enjoy our vastly popular recreational areas. Make a list of items that you will be using then double check while packing the car. My father who is extremely hooked on our steelhead streams was so excited to get back out here again with my uncle and my cousin that all the flies he had tied the week before were left in his basement in his haste to get going. Not to worry though I had a vice and he was busy tying the night he got here so he had flies to use the next day. By the way we had another several days of outstanding fishing with the steelhead cooperating while they were here. |
