Well, just as I feared the cooler fall like weather that arrived here just after my last posting did indeed come in with lots and lots of wind almost daily. And after a beautiful summer the losses are quickly mounting up now. This last two week period seen us outright have to cancel about half a dozen trips and forced us into fishing maybe another half dozen days in less then desirable conditions. Where are all the people now that walked off my boat this past summer after a super gorgeous day all saying “man, you have my dream job captain!” Lol!

Whenever we did make it back out there, there was always a feeling of uncertainty. Did things change? Did the fish move? And each day that we did manage to fish the answer was a resounding NO! Nothing has changed. The Walleye fishing remains as strong and fantastic as it has been all season long. There does seem to be some seasonal movement with the fish seemingly moving back in closer to shore. At least a good many of them. Not that you still can’t catch a good many fish way out there as we found out a few days this past week where we had no choice but to crank it way out there to play the wind and get our day in.

We are still on a simple Dipsy Diver and spoon program. It does not get any easier then that. Especially when you are forced to fish in heavier sea conditions then you would like. I have to stop and scratch my head in wonder. How did we ever do it when we had to run planer boards daily no matter what the lake conditions were with 4 or 5 wire rods per side. People trying to stand reeling the fish in with 4 or 5 hundred feet of wire line out! Just crazy! Man, I don’t ever want to go back to those days! Did we ever really have to do all of that or are we just a lot smarter now? Hmmm...

So unbelievably, this will be my last real fishing report for this season. In two weeks time we’ll have run our final few trips and all concentration will change to getting everything cleaned up and winterized. I do plan on posting one more time in 2 weeks with a little wrap up of the 2025 fishing season and my usual end of the year thank you notes to everyone. After years of doing so, I feel like I could just go back to past postings in past late September reports and just copy and paste everything to this years final report. But I won’t do that and I’ll try to be as creative as I can. But first we have to get through this final stretch. It does seem like the trend that I see is for warmer and more stable weather to move back into the region. Maybe a early Indian Summer? It would not make me mad! Two more weeks... I CAN DO THIS!
