Great weather! Great friends! And great fishing! We are chugging along nicely here as we are about to put the month of June in the rear view mirror. The Walleye fishing out of the Port of Ashtabula just could not get any better. Everyday is like the movie Ground Hog Day for ourselves and all of the other charters here really. Boat limits are almost automatic for everybody. Day after day after day. I can’t believe that even I have had to reel some fish in! Lol! The fish are still hanging in there rather close to shore even though water temps have now surged to the mid 70’s. What a blessing for everyone. I’m sure we are still going to end up well offshore eventually like we do every year but for now the fish don’t seem to be in any big hurry to push northward. And I like it! |

Although it’s been a bit toasty, aboard The Trophy we’ve been getting out early enough in the morning each day that for the most part we have been able to beat the mid day heat. Along with the high pressure system that’s been sitting over us that has us locked in this heat pattern, we’ve been blessed with relatively little wind which has resulted in fairly flat sea conditions daily and a nice run of trips for everyone. Like I said, Great weather! |

And great friends! I love this part of the season for myself. Every group we have now are all long running guests that have fished with us for many, many years. No introductions are necessary! Just big old bear hugs and back slaps. We laugh all day long and catch up with how everyone has been doing since we all saw each other last. We share all of our new aches and pains with each other since last year every day it seems like! Ha! Just one of the downsides of doing this for so very long with such a very loyal bunch of people that are all aging right along with me. And at the end of the day when all the fish have been cleaned and we have had a chance to enjoy a few adult beverages and it’s time to go, the good byes seem to be more emotional then ever. I’m not going to lie. A few tears have even been shed on both sides. The years seem to fly by just as fast as the trips themselves. Such is life I guess. |

So as I had mentioned this June is about shot. A few more days now and it will unbelievably be the 4th of July already. I’ve always considered the 4th of July the unofficial half way point of the summer and of my fishing season. It will be all down hill from there. I had mentioned it in my last report but we still have this coming Thursday, July the 3rd available for a fishing charter with me should anybody be looking. It would be a really neat way to kick off a long holiday weekend for someone! Fish with us on Thursday and have a blowout huge fish fry on Friday the 4th! I can practically guarantee you’ll have plenty of fish to do so! As always I can be reached on my cell, 216-387-2656 text or call to book. That’s about it folks. Happy 4th of July. Stay safe and enjoy! Capt. Walt Trophy Charters |
