We’re back baby! Season and year # 39 for me is well underway now. While others are just now thinking about maybe putting their boats in the water here in Ashtabula, The Trophy has been very hard at work already creating many wonderful, new memories for everyone. |

Walleye fishing is really heating up as well too! It just blows my mind how every May when I start fishing here in Ashtabula that there is literally nobody else out there even trying. And when I say nobody, I mean zero! I have thus far only seen one other charter boat out a couple of days with me and like no pleasure boats. Amazing how so many people still think that it’s way too early to catch any Walleye this far east of the Islands here in the deeper waters of the extreme eastern end of the Central Basin. They are all so very dead wrong! Lol! |

I’m not saying it’s been super easy for us but if you are willing to put in a full days work and work very hard at it, there certainly are fish to be caught even in early May out here. And that’s exactly what we have been doing aboard The Trophy. Putting in full 8 hour days, running a crap load of rods and covering many, many miles of water each day. But at the end of the day many memories have been made along with some new lasting friendships. Oh, and we catch a few fish too lol! And that really is what it's all about! |

So everything is the same as always for this time of year. For the areas that I’ve fished and techniques being used, just go back through any of my many archived Ashtabula Walleye fishing reports for the month of May. Say for about the last 10 years. It’s all exactly about the same. Same ole, same ole. Water temps are approximately 55 degrees as of this posting. Still a little bit on the cool side but we have quite literally nowhere to go but up now. The weather, well I don’t want to start the season out whining too much about it already but there definitely is room for improvement! Ha! Thus far it’s been a kind of a cool and well, let’s just call it “breezy” spring! Lol! But otherwise. all is good. The new engine in the boat is running well. I feel good about everything and we now have a handful or so of trips under our belts already. I’m eagerly looking forward to even warmer summer temperatures and calm seas and most of all seeing more of you guys, my friends back aboard The Trophy for yet another day of making lasting memories!
