Where Are All The Fish? 7/09/2010

YELLOW PERCH:

Twelve year old Thomas (Walker) Smith of Raleigh N.C. came in with a nice 14 ½ ounce Perch for Angler Award. It was 12 inches long and had a girth of 9 inches. It was caught along with the rest of the Limit the boat had in around 58 ft of water straight out of Walnut Creek. He was using Emerald shiners.

The fishing has been slow. I haven’t heard of too many limits coming in on any kind of fish. The Walleye seem to be very good to catch and the Perch are very sporadic. Before we had the nasty weather last week boaters were doing fine. Then the weather turned and it shut right off. A couple days after that fishing was good again. Then we had a few days of 90 + degrees and they shut right down again. Hopefully this rain we are getting today will stir things up some.

I am hearing of there being a lot of Algae out on the water too. That might be why fishing is slow. From a distance it looks brown but when you get upon it, it’s green.

This weekend doesn’t look too bad weather wise. Saturday : North winds, 5-15 knots, 1-3 ft waves and Sunday: West winds, 10 knots or less, 2 ft or less on the waves.
