Not Only Fish, But Water Spouts Too 08/07/2009

WALLEYE:

David Randolph of New Kensington brought in this Walleye. It weighed 9 pounds 10 ½ ounces, was 30 inches long and had a girth of 16 ½ inches. He caught it out way west almost to the Ohio line in 65 ft of water on a Spoon. His color was yellow.

Eight year old Nicholas Izbicki of West Springfield came in for an Angler Award with two fish. The first one was the Walleye. It was 7 pounds and was 29 inches long with a girth of 15 inches. He caught it out in 53 ft of water straight out of Walnut Creek while he was perching. He caught it on an Emerald shiner.

He also caught a Perch for Angler Award too. It was 12 ounces, 11 ¾ inches long and had a girth of 8 ½ inches.

The Walleye seem to be evasive. I have only heard of a couple being caught here and there. No big numbers coming in. The fishermen are saying though that the Perch this year are really big. So far this year the Walleye and the Small Mouth Bass are being very hard to find.

Also, the lake and the weather this year is about as bad as I can remember. We have had such few days to get out on the water where it was fishable. Either it is storming or the waves are too big. Hopefully things will change but it is already August and there is only a couple more months of Walleye and Perch fishing left.

INCLIMATE WEATHER:

We had 25-28 water spouts on Thursday, Aug. 6. We had another two this morning (Aug. 7).

I was able to take pictures of a couple of them with my camera positioned over the lens of the binoculars. These spouts are an amazing sight to see.

You can actually see the water rise up at the base of the spout if you look hard enough. I was told by one of the Meteorologist from Canada that he thinks this set a record for number of spouts in one day.
