Another two weeks have remarkably sped by. This summer for me is fast becoming like all the 39 summers before this one. Just one big crazy blurr. The same routine everyday. Up at 2:00am. Rolling off the dock by 4 - 4:30am. Fight all kinds of crazy weather conditions. Catch a crap load of fish each day. Hang out with the days crew until their fish are cleaned. Then do whatever boat work needs to be done in preparation for tomorrow's charter. Then back to the camper. Early to bed so we can just do it all over again in a very few short hours. Wash, rinse, and repeat. A blurr...
The only thing that really mixes things up for us and keeps this whole thing from becoming just like the movie "Ground Hog Day" is the weather. We've sure had a wide variety of conditions these past few weeks from picture perfect days to very rough and uncomfortable days that we fished in to just plain no-go days to where no matter how bad you wanted to go or how big your boat was you couldn't because it was just too rough to go and small craft advisories were posted. Oh, and just to make things even more interesting is all the blown weather forecasts that they throw at us just for fun. Don't even get me started on that subject!
But as I mentioned before, through thick and thin we keep bringing in daily just a "crap load" of fish! There are no longer any words left to describe how great the Walleye fishing really is up here on the GREATEST Great Lake of them all, Lake Erie. I am so grateful to have had a career not only for so long but to have lasted long enough to get in on and witness this unprecedented boom and explosion in the Walleye population that we are all witnessing. It is simply mind boggling how many fish are being caught by everyone. And with ease at that! Whenever the weather cooperates that is. Ugh.
Marina gasoline cost dockside is now up to $6.31 a gallon. Not the direction that we were all hoping for as the Walleyes continue to push northward. It's the highest gas price that I've ever paid for! I'm not going to rehash how all my other business expenses have skyrocketed as well but I am going to rehash how very grateful we are for everyone's super generosity all season long thus far in this fuel crisis and especially here lately. Without having to tack on any kind of fuel sur-charges or any other rate hikes, everyone has voluntarily stepped up to the plate big time to help keep me in the game. I can never thank all of you guys enough! Man, you folks must all REALLY want us back next year! Ha! We love you! For now, I'll see you all back here again in print in just the blurr of the eye!
