Fishing report for the week of 9/18, 2011.

The last of the Walleyes ? Things in the Walleye department just keep getting slower and slower around here. I ended up running a couple of more Walleye trips this past week but other then the shear size of the remaining fish that we are still catching, there was little else to really get excited about. The total numbers that we brought in just keeps dropping off. I hope I can switch off the remaining few Walleye trips that I have left on the books for Perch trips before we go out there and really bomb with the Walleyes ! I think most of our fish have left us. And though I ran more Perch trips this past week then Walleye and we had AWESOME Perch trips, I'm going to feature some of the Walleyes that we managed to bring to the boat for this weeks pictures because hey, they may just be the last of the Mohicans for this year !

This past weeks weather was not nearly as bad out on the lake as they made it out to possibly be early on. Tuesday was rough so we just ended up Perching that day and Thursday was down right terrible and we ended up cancelling all together. The rest of the week was actually quite pleasant. The weekend was really great although both Sat. & Sun. both started out very brisk in the morning with very strong south east winds making for a good chop that was just sloppy enough to throw us around pretty good while we were anchored up fishing for the Perch. Of coarse both days by the time we were done, the lake went almost flat !

But my crews both days on the weekend didn't seem to mind it and the Perch for sure did not mind it. They were ON FIRE ! In my mind, there was no doubt that we were going to limit out. Our only goal was to try and beat most of the other 10 million boats that were out there Perching back in so that our catch didn't get buried in line back at the fish cleaning station. The fish cleaners are really good and pretty fast at what they do but still, you get behind 4 - 5 coolers or even more later in the day and you are really SCREWED ! It might take you a few hours to limit out only to come back and have to wait 3 or 4 hours or longer before they even get to your cooler. Still though, it beats having to go home and face that mess yourself. Perch especially are a real pain in the butt to clean. Best to leave it to the pro's. I know I do whenever I do get some for myself !

So I have a few trips going out this week. I am not sure what we are doing. I hope it's all Perch. And if it's rough, there will simply be no choice in the matter. I'm done fighting the big waves in hopes of catching a Walleye when I don't even have any more confidence in it. It's just that time of year. And it's also that time of year that my schedule starts to lighten up. I actually have two available dates for a charter this week. This coming Wednesday and Friday are both available ( Sept. 21st & 23rd ). The Friday would certainly be a prime date for anyone looking. Nothing like a 3 day weekend ending up with a bangin Lake Erie Perch fish fry ! By now everyone knows the drill and how to contact me. Hope someone is interested before the weather turns for the worst as often as it can come October. Call me before it's too late !

Capt. Walt

We have now pushed our departure time back once again because it is simply staying dark so long now in the mornings. I am now telling everyone that we are leaving at 6:00am. You still should be at the marina by 5:45 at the very latest to get all loaded up so we can be ready to roll by 6am sharp. I myself will still continue to be at the boat right around 5:30. And for those that still don't know it, there are no fishing licenses at the marina. You need to get those ahead of time. Call me if you have any questions or concerns.
