Fishing report for the week of August 7, 2011.

Just pluggin along... A week deep into August and the Walleye fishing continues to remain very good even though it is very far offshore. This past week we had a few very windy days and of coarse, the fishing wasn't nearly as good or easy under those circumstances that we were dealt with. We still caught good fish but it wasn't as good as it could have been on a couple of those days. Such is fishing and the luck of the draw when you are locked in on a particular date. It is what it is...

This is going to be a bit briefer of a report because frankly I am very tired and don't feel like writing very much. I just ran a couple of doubles back to back and it's all I can do right now just to see straight. I guess my age may finally be catching up to me because I just don't seem to bounce back quite as easily as I used to. Maybe it's the fact that Lake Erie showed her real ugly side again this week a few days yet somehow I toughed through it and got er done. Those waves will certainly wear you down though, that's for sure !

So enjoy the pictures and know that I am working very hard each day to keep everybody on the fish the best that I can and make the best of it for everyone regardless of the weather conditions that we are facing the day of your trip. If I could only pick and choose the days that I have to go out on, it sure would be nice !

So the fish continue their slow and steady march north and east. Further and further away all the time. I do what I have to do to do to catch fish. The weather at times does not do us any favors. A lot of really long grueling boat rides. Fuel bills are very ugly right now . I was just informed I have a standing tab of about $2900 hundred bucks that I owe for the last couple of weeks which does include my doubles but hey, it's still OUCH ! I am through begging for a little help. A lot of guy's realize what's going on and do go beyond the call of duty and help out big but I was very disappointed this past week in particular as well. Seems like no matter how hard I work doing the work of both a first mate and captain all by myself and no matter how far I run for them, or how well we do, some people just don't get it... Just like the weather though, it is what it is. I think I just need to get some rest right now. Cya next week.

Capt. Walt

*It is imperative that we get out early. These fish most of the time feed like crazy right at dawn and then really shut down when the sun gets higher. I am at the boat at 5:00am everyday and we need to be off the dock by 5:30am at the VERY LATEST ! For all of my upcoming trips, I urge you to be there as early as possible so we don't miss out on this opportunity. Also there are no fishing license sales at the marina again this summer so you guys have to get them on your own ahead of time. You can do so online or the local K-Mart or Wal-Mart here in Ashtabula which both are open 24 hours a day.
