July 2024 Walleye Fishing Erie PA - Walnut Creek

The summer began with nice weather and lots of walleye. The end of June and beginning of July many walleyes could be found in the 40-foot+ depth all along the southern shore of Lake Erie, Ohio line to the Presque Isle Peninsula was giving up walleye limits every day.

Big fish were mingled in among the massive school of walleye. White perch are becoming a real
nuisance as they grow in size and massive number increase.

Most days nice size Yellow perch end up in the cooler. These large yellow belly perch on most days are suspended right with the walleye. Average size is large.

Aboard the "SEAWOLF" we always use a hands-on drift fishing fun method were the customers hold the rod in hand. Catching the large walleye is real fun as they fight up and down. Running back down and up again for the last time giving a good battle to the end. Walleye do fight if not dragged across the top of the water at a fast trolled speed. "NO FUN IN THAT"
Enjoy the fight just drifting along.

As the water warms and July dates increase, fish are now found deeper. Moving out to the 55 feet bottom depth and beyond. The walleyes are suspended down 40 feet plus.

Kids have fun too! Putting their own rod out and catching walleye is easy for the young ones aboard the "SEAWOLF". Having them hold one maybe a different story.

Sheep head on some days are in abundance and other days are not missed. What is a great surprise is when an angler thinks it a big sheep's head and it's a walleye, get the net. Yes, large walleye can battle like a sheep head when drifting. Sheep head are never netted on the :SEAWOLF", it's a waste of time to tie up the net. Getting two to four walleyes on at a time when only fishing four rods at a time makes great action. Why only four rods, four anglers fishing with rod in hand concentrating on the next bite.

Now that the month of July has gone, deeper water is where they are at. Still suspended 45 to 55 feet down.
