Fishing Report by Captain Ron Rusch

Drifting for Smallmouth Bass Shades Beach and Shorewood PA

Drifting for Smallmouth Bass Shades Beach and Shorewood PA

The morning had a slight southwest breeze at Shades Beach. The ride out had spots of flat water and no wind. Several drifts were without fish. Action began in 12 feet with nice fish on the line.

The wind shifted back and forth as action kept getting better.

Kept working 12 to 20 feet with good action.

Drifting minnows for smallmouth is tops. Many times the fish dance on the water attempting to spit the hook. Few get the chance for early freedom..

Everybody was catching fish as we worked our way east.

Many of the rock piles are loaded with smallies. Doubles were becoming common as the fish were moving deeper.

The day just kept getting better. A quad was full of excitement as the fish danced and dove all over the water.

The captain got in on the thrill and pulled a 20+ inch smallie that ran all over the bottom. Great drifting fight, many thrills and the day comes to an end with 20 feet being HOT!
