West Erie County, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert

Conditions:

The Labor Day holiday weekend was a good one with generally good weather and Lake conditions. Boat traffic was heavy with anglers out to get their perch limits and find this season's elusive walleye. Walleye catches were sporadic with a few here and a few there. Nearly all good reports came from 70 to 72 feet of water West of Walnut Creek to the Ohio line. Stick baits and the reef runner style lures have been hot with the brighter colors triggering strikes. Perch fishing should remain good for a while as long as the lake conditions cooperate. Current Lake Erie water temperature off Erie is 72 degrees. Current West County tributary conditions as of Tuesday afternoon were low and clear with little flow. Water levels near the mouths of Walnut and Elk Creeks are good.

Steelhead:
Well, their here, but in limited numbers and as fast as they arrive, so do the trip anglers. The Walnut channel had good numbers of steelhead holding up to the first bend. A good crowd was lined the wall with a surprising number of catches and even a few limits pulled over the weekend. Anglers were lined up at trout run with a fair number of catches at day break

Trailers:
Boaters are reminded that per Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle code, all trailers with a registered gross vehicle weight rating over 3000 LBS. require Pennsylvania State Inspection as well as current registration. Trailer inspections can be critical due to the harsh use, exposure to water, long periods of non use and rust build up. Yes it's the law, but consider the liability to you and to others of an unsafe trailer. Officers will be on the lookout for expirations.

Support Your Local Sportsmen's Clubs:
The Pennsylvania Steelhead Association will be holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday September 9th at the American Legion Post on West 12th street (route 5 near the Airport) at 7:00 PM. The public is welcome. The club will be holding their annual "Big Run Banquet" on September 26th from Noon to 6:00 PM at the Shades Beach Park Pavilion in Harborceek, just west of the City of Erie. This is a great event with a fabulous pig roast, vendor displays, demonstrations, contests, raffles and auctions. Donation is 10.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Poor Richards, Lake Erie Ultimate Angler, Green Roof Inn, Fish USA, Elk Creek Sports, East Avenue Bait and East End Angler. If you are in to Steelhead this is a must attend event.
