Pymatuning Lake - Fishermen are still having luck wading at the North end of
the lake using lures ( Shad-Rap in chartreuse). Not a lot of fish are being
caught but enough to make the trip worth while. The very southern end of the
lake has slowed down and the fish seemed to still be getting caught more
north almost straight out from Gum Picnic area. Not a lot of boat activity
today and I wasn't here this weekend to see how they were doing but the
report I got from boats that were checked today was that the walleye are
still biting. Crappies are still biting in the 10 to 12 inch range but the
area they are in seem to be varied, if you do get one though stay there and
keep trying because there is usually more than one present. Minnies seem to
be working real well for them right now.

Conneaut Lake- I haven't been able to check any boats here, the pace seems
to have dropped right off. I am not sure if this is because of the opening
of hunting season or what but I believe it probably is.

If you are getting your boat ready for storage now you should keep a few
things in mind, one of the most frequent violations I ran into this year was
with FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. They seem to be either not permanently affixed,
immediately available, or serviceable. This would be a great time of year to
get your boat ready for the next season. Remember the extinguisher needs to
be MOUNTED were it can be reached right away and it has to be fully charged.
Also if you store your boat in other than a heated area the metal and
plastic expand and contract at different rates and cause the nitrogen (the
gas used to expel the chemical in the extinguisher) to escape past the
O-RING making it unserviceable. You should also take your life jackets out
and store them in a cool dry place away from sunlight so that they don't get
all moldy and rotten in the hold of the boat. A few simple preparations now
can make for a pleasant rather than an unpleasant encounter with a WATERWAYS
CONSERVATION OFFICER next boating season.
