WESTERN CRAWFORD COUNTY REPORT
WCO JOE RUSSELL
I apologize to all the sportsmen who wait regularly for our report to come
out every week. Due to a near fatal boat accident on Conneaut Lake last
week, I was a little tied up. In the last week we have had two serious boat
accidents and a BUI (Boating Under the Influence) all in western Crawford
County. All of these could have been prevented with some care. The only fish
I have seen caught in either Pymatuning Lake or Conneaut Lake has been CARP.
The water in both lakes has been above 80 degrees, great for swimming but
bad for fishing. Although two of the carp fishermen that I did talk to had
approximately 150 pounds of carp in one evening. Unfortunately they were
fishing behind the wire at the spillway and thanks to some concerned
citizens that called with the license plate and were willing to testify they
are both paying $211.50 for a cooler full of turtle bait. Boaters need to
remember also that BUI is a serious infraction of the law as well, it is a
Misdemeanor and can have some serious ramifications. If you have to drink
while boating get a designated driver like you would a car, then everyone is
safe. Everyone needs to remember that we are not out there to ruin your fun
time we are out there so that you make it back home to boat another day.
Hopefully the weather will start cooling off and the fall walleye run will
start picking up. Until next week stay safe and enjoy the waters of Pa.
