WCO Joe Russell / Western Crawford County Pymatuning Lake- the extremely warm weather and lack of rain we have had for the last several weeks have warmed the water up greatly. Walleye are being caught at sundown or night when the water starts to cool off. Worm harnesses still seem to be the best producers. Warm water species are doing somewhat better with good catches of bluegills and crappies on structures. Carp are still being picked up in large numbers all over the lake and are offering a very good time if all you want to do is fight a fish. Some muskies are being picked up but usually only by those targeting them. Boaters should be aware that as of today the lake is down over a foot from the normal summer pool and areas that would have been passable before will now tear the lower unit off of your boat. Be very cautious and take it slow if you are unfamiliar with the obstructions in the area or you don't have a depth finder. Should you be on the lake this weekend and the fish are not biting during the day, you should check out the state park "Pioneer Days" on the 28th and 29th. There will be arts and crafts, a civil war reenactment, children's activities and displays of all kinds. It is going on at the southern end of the park by the dam and any questions should be directed to the State Park Office. Conneaut Lake- The warm weather has certainly brought out more boat traffic but hasn't affected Conneaut as bad as Pymatuning probably because of it being much deeper and spring fed, if you know when to fish. Pike and pickerel are being caught throughout most of the lake, and bass are still being caught around docks and other structures. The big winner has to be the Bluegill catch though, the back waters, shallows, and weed beds, are still producing bucketful's of fish. The best time to hit the lake is either very early or very late in the day. Bowfin are still being caught but not in the numbers that they were in the spring. The tenth annual KIDS FISHING DERBY is coming up August 4th & 5th at the end of the road pavilion in Linesville.
