Western Crawford County Report - WCO Joe Russell Pymatuning Lake has picked up in the last week and had some great blue gill fishing. Fishermen wading or fishing from shore have been getting large numbers by floating a jig or a worm under a bobber about a foot down. Some walleye have been caught as well by trolling but it is usually only good early or late in the day. Ten feet of water or the edges of weed beds seem to be where they have getting the most fish. Conneaut lake- The 3 B's seem to be on the agenda, BASS, BLUEGILL, and BOWFIN. All three have been actively feeding this last weekend with some fishermen having buckets of bluegills. The shallow warmer water is where to look, with jigs, maggots and red worms, suspended under a bobber about a foot down. The bass are still around structures and are really good size. Tammarack Lake yielded several large walleye over the weekend to fishermen from boats, and too many undersized walleye to count by people fishing from shore. The crappie fishing was excellent with 10" to 14" fish being taken. This lake has definitely started on the right path to becoming the fishery that it was prior to being drawn down. Crawford County Youth Field Days were held this last Saturday at Pymatuning Sportsman's club and the kids had a ball. Out of the almost 250 kids that participated less than a handful didn't catch any fish. Even the rain didn't slow them down when it came to having a good time, and it's always easier to smile when the fish are biting. As a WCO I would like to thank all those who donated their time to help out in this event because without you, it would not have been possible. I had one individual (JIM C) drive all the way from Butler County to donate his time to expose kids to fishing. That's a true sportsman. I also encourage any of you who are not involved to contact your local clubs and become involved, the rewards are outstanding.
