The Elk Valley Sportsmen Club is located in Lake City, Pa. just off of Route 5 on the road that runs beside the Elk Creek Sports Store; it's at the foot of the hill. Walleye have been showing up on shore at night in very small numbers with some anglers trying their luck at all of the trib mouths. Two walleyes were caught Monday evening at Trout Run Beach (Avonia). For those of you new to this type of fishing, do not use any lights as even the moon coming out from behind the clouds will shut the fish down. Try to pick an overcast dark night with a calm lake. The warm weather forecast this week should move the smolts out of the tribs in the evenings and that's what the walleye come there. The sand bar off of Baer Beach reportedly has plenty of walleye present for night boaters. A high percentage of males are coming up onto the bar at night according to Lake Erie Research personnel. Trout were still plentiful in Elk Creek with the hole upstream from the abandoned bridge abutment at Sterrettania being loaded with Steelhead, Suckers and stocked Brown Trout. The I-79 hole is also a hotspot. Anglers should realize that the hole there is 14-feet deep, so bait presentation should be adjusted accordingly. Crooked Creek will be receiving an in-season stocking this week Suckers are in many of the tribs now with the Whiteman's Bridge area of Elk Creek being one of the favorite hotspots. A nightcrawler fished on the bottom with an ultralight rod makes for some great fun and plenty of action for the kids. Bass are being slammed off of the monument area of Presque Isle Park with many reports of huge smallmouths being caught. Low water will be a real problem this year. The rocks on the east side of Misery Bay are high out of the water already. The Walnut Creek Access Channel is scheduled to be dredged next week. A new light will be installed on the East Jetty this year and will be green in color. The office is currently staffed on the weekends during the day and will soon be going to 7 days / week.
