LOOK FOR RAIN in the forecast to rekindle additional runs of steelhead this
weekend.

HOT "all-around" Baits... Maribou jigs on # 12 hooks - colors - chartreuse,
white, brown, black tipped with wax worm or grubs.

HOT FLYROD BAITS ... suckerspawn or egg patterns in white, peach, or pink OR
woolly buggers in olive or black

HOT "HIGH WATER" BAITS ... Shiners, Crawlers, OR Power Bait will be the
ticket muddy conditions.

BEST SPOTS WITH LOTS OF FISH & NO CROWDS... the Legion Park area of Elk
Creek and the stretch from Girard Boro park downstream to the RR Trestle are
full of fish (checked it out personally). Less congested alternatives to
Walnut Creek Access

CURRENT FISH RUN STATUS (pre-rain 10/3/00) :
WALNUT ... up to Asbury Woods (south of Rt 832)
ELK ... up to Streuchen Flats (above Rt. 98)
CROOKED ... Ables Rd.
TWENTY MILE ... Hershel's Farm (south of Rt. 5)
SIXTEEN MILE ... Sewage Plant Outfall
TWELVE MILE ... Waterfall south of Rt 5

If planning on releasing a Steelhead ***
... Don't play the fish any more than is necessary to land it.
... Do not remove deeply imbedded hooks ... cut the line.
... Do not take fish out of the water any more than necessary.
... Do not insert fingers in gill area
... Return to the water as quickly a possible.

The Pa Fish & Boat Commission has placed two Portable Toilets at the South
End of Walnut Access by the Project Waters for the convenience of the stream
fishermen. Another two toilets are at the uppermost portion of the launch
ramps. The restrooms in the visitor's center remain open also.

A thanks to the many anglers that have interrupted their own fishing
activities to report snagging & over the limit violations. These anglers
provided accurate descriptions of clothing & locations that resulted in the
swift arrest of the violators by officers. Whenever I see a 4 year old child
with their first steelhead a few days later... I can't help but wonder if
this happy scene would have occurred without the help of these concerned
sportsmen that may have saved this fish from poachers. Together we can make
a difference!!
