Fall is a particularly dangerous time on Lake Erie due to swift changes in Lake conditions.
Be cautious in high waves entering Walnut Channel if you are inexperienced in
navigating it. Depth can change drastically after a Northeastern'r storm hits. Also, even a 4' channel depth is cut to 1' if your boat "falls" off of a 6' wave and into its trough.
New "Salmon/Steelhead" Regulations are now in effect as of September 5th. Be sure to read your summary book for a refresher. Highlights include: **** A 3 fish creel limit with a 15" minimum size limit for combined trout / salmon catches per calendar day *** * Time restrictions from 10 PM to 5 AM ...50 yards away from the mouth of Godfrey & Trout Run ... No fishing south of Rt. 5 on West Side Tribs ... East Side Tribs closed during this time period * Local restrictions / prohibitions: ... No Parking along Manchester & Dutch Roads ... Cleaning of fish without "properly disposing" of entrails
... No Fires on Avonia &Godfrey Beaches or other areas without express landowner permission ... Failing to pull in lines for passing boaters at Walnut Creek * Other "common sense" violations ... blocking driveways or mailboxes ... failing to stop at posted stop signs or otherwise negligent vehicle operation at Walnut Access ... loud boisterous behavior or foul language ... Littering These are all intended to make it an enjoyable & safe sport for the anglers, their families & the landowners. All have a sound basis behind their strict enforcement and help assure that properties will be open to public fishing for future generations. Little tolerance will be given for the above listed offenses
