Saturday May 3 2003

The morning was cold from the passing cold front, clear, northeast wind, waves 1-3 feet and the water temp 43 degrees. The conditions were found very unfavorable east of Presque Isle but the smallmouth drifting action was great. First cast 19 inch smallie.

Johnny got his line in and battled in a 21 inch smallie.

The bite was on one after another with a few doubles. Best depth was 25 to 22 feet. The water was clear and seeing the bottom was easy at 20 feet.

Action continued strong for several hours until the wind picked up and the waves built to 2-5. The cold breeze was becoming nasty but the crew hung in there as the word to quite was mention several times.

Mid day the bite was back on and the breeze was dying down. The entire days catch was all huge fat smallies. Many eighteens were caught this day. Bait used was large golden shiners and small lake minnows worked well.

The day ended on a double with about 60 smallies being caught and released for another days fun.
Days catch was 100 percent action-packed small mouth bass.
