Most nearshore and bay ice is deteriorating with open water pockets in Sandusky Bay, off of Marblehead, North of Port Clinton, and between Catawba Island and South Bass Island. While airboats are still traveling from the mainland to fish offshore it should be considered unsafe to walk out on the ice or drive snowmobiles or ATV's onto the ice from the mainland. West of South Bass Island between Rattlesnake Island and Green Island, where the ice is sheltered, fishing has continued to be exceptional. Many limit catches of walleye have been reported with 4 to 6 pound averages including fish up to 13 pounds. Be sure to check with local bait stores, ice guides or other anglers before going out on areas that you are not familiar with.
