Walleye Fishing Report: NW Ohio (4/4/03) Maumee River - 54°F, Water level is normal and clear. Fishing pressure is high. Anglers are catching very good numbers of walleye – mostly males 18-22” with an occasional larger female. Best areas are Fort Meigs & Bluegrass Island areas to Jerome Road. The best baits seem to be the floating jigs tied about 18 -24 inches above a 1/4 - 1/2 oz. sinker tipped with orange, pink or chartreuse plastic tails. Sandusky River - 49°F, Water level is normal and clearing. Fishing presssure is high. Anglers are catching good numbers of 16”-20” male walleye with a few larger females up to 24". Best areas are between State St. & Hayes St. bridges. Best baits are floating jigs tied about 12 inches behind a ¼ oz. sinker tipped with orange, pink or chartreuse plastic tails |
