Walleye Fishing Report: NW Ohio (3/26/03)

Maumee River - 45°F, water level is slightly above normal but dropping and stained. Anglers are taking fair numbers of male walleye (18”-24”) with an occasional limit between Buttonwood, Sidecut & the Island. An occasional female (24”-28”) also is being caught. There is now access to the Island. Anglers are using chartreuse green twister tails. Fishing first thing in the morning until 11:00 a.m. seems to be the best times. Outlook should improve with warmer temperatures.

Sandusky River - 47°F, water level is average and stained. Anglers are taking good catches of male & female walleye with several limits. Males are averaging 18”-22”. Females are averaging 22”-24”. One 26” female was taken this morning. Anglers are using chartreuse green with some pink & yellow twister tails (1/4-3/8 oz. doll flies). Walleye are being caught at anytime of the day. Best areas are from State Street Bridge to Hayes Street Bridge. Outlook for each day is good to excellent with temperatures starting to increase.
