Well I got out on the ice off of Catawba State Park yesterday. There were 4 sleds about a mile further out than I was which was a mile west of sugar rock, and the ice was the same about 5-7 inches. I stayed inside the 911 crack were I was still on the old ice at 6-7 inches. Water clarity was about 8 feet which was better than it was 3 weeks ago. There is still open water west of the south passage and in the passage. The airboats are still running the rim to get to Green Island, although one went through two weeks ago. Remember, I down sized my rig to a 3 wheeler and light sled to be safer, if there is such a thing as safe on the ice. I marked fish with no takers. but I went out to check the ice. There is alot of push ice, which is unsafe, about 1/2 mile west of the dock. REMEMBER there is no such thing as safe ice and on Lake Erie it's also the currents. I plan to be out on sunday with temps back into the 20's. Good fishin Capt Bob Hughey www.mrbass@lakeeriefishing911.com |
