Lake Erie is quickly losing ice. Any ice near the mainland should be considered unsafe. There will most likely be a one or two week transition from the ice season to the open water season. Once the ice has cleared fishing will start to heat up. Plenty of male walleye will be available for anglers jigging on the Camp Perry reefs, Maumee Bay, and nearshore from Toledo to Huron. Larger female walleye can be caught by trolling minnow imitating stickbaits in the open water around the reefs and islands. Be extremely cautious with water temperatures in the mid 30’s. |
