Walleye fishing was good until the past weekend (as of 4/25/12). Recent winds have limited access to the lake and have greatly reduced water clarity in the western basin. Prior to the windy weather anglers trolling around the outer buoys of the Camp Perry firing range and west of the Bass Islands have had success with crankbaits in the top 15’ of water and also on worm harnesses fished with inline weights. Jig fishing has slowed, but has been best along the shoreline from Davis-Besse to Turtle Creek and on some of the reefs in the Camp Perry firing range. Yellow Perch – some yellow perch have been caught near the Marblehead Lighthouse to the southeast corner of Kelley’s Island. Perch spreaders or crappie rigs with shiners fished near the bottom produce the most fish.
