Western Basin

Warm temperatures and high winds have greatly altered ice conditions on Lake Erie. The shoreline accesses are now unsafe. The only reported ice fishing activity has been west of South Bass Island, but local experts should be consulted before heading out on the ice. Remember that shifting winds can cause large cracks to open up between sheets of ice. Currents below the ice can also eat away at the thickness of the ice and cause thin areas that aren’t obvious from the surface.
