MORE THAN $400,000 IN IMPROVEMENTS TO BEGIN THIS SUMMER AT EAST HARBOR STATE PARKCOLUMBUS, OH - East Harbor State Park on Lake Erie in Ottawa County will undergo $463,535 in upgrades to its water and sanitation systems this year, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Beginning in mid-July, McCullough Construction of Port Clinton will begin installing two new sanitary sewer lift stations at the park - one at the popular swimming beach and another at the campground. Additional beach improvements include new drinking fountains, a foot-wash station at the beach house, and new sewer lines. New drinking fountains are also planned for the campground. Electric service will be installed at the Lake View Pavilion so that gatherings and local events can become a feature of the south beach area. All improvements are slated for completion by the end of the year. Some park facilities may be closed briefly during the construction period; prospective visitors are encouraged to call (419-734-4424 ext. 2) about a week ahead to check on project status. "The beach and campground at East Harbor is one of the most popular in the state park system," said ODNR Director Sam Speck. "This project will make it even more convenient and enjoyable for those who come here to swim, boat, fish and enjoy the Lake Erie shoreline." More than 1.2 million people visited the park last year. With 570 campsites, the campground at East Harbor is one of the largest in the state park system. Both electric and non-electric sites are available, as are two camper cabins.
