BOATERS URGED TO BE CAUTIOUS OF HIGH WATER LEVELS Guard against cold water immersion and hypothermia COLUMBUS, OH - A statewide recreational boating advisory has been issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), alerting boaters that seasonably frigid water temperatures and potentially high river levels present dangerous conditions along Ohio's waterways. Water temperatures remain just above freezing, and inland streams and rivers could reach potentially high levels in the coming weeks due to rain, melting ice and water discharges from inland reservoirs, according to the ODNR Division of Watercraft. Fishing from boats has been reported in various locations around Ohio, though Lake Erie and some inland lakes remain partially ice covered. Taking precautions against cold water immersion and hypothermia are especially important this time of year. Boaters should consider these tips when on the water this spring: * Always wear a life jacket while boating; * Dress in layers, wearing synthetic moisture-wicking clothing; * Do not improperly load or overload a boat with people and gear; * Take a boating education course that is approved by ODNR Division of Watercraft.
