GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES $550,000 IN MARINE PATROL GRANTS FOR GREATER
BOATING SAFETY ON OHIO WATERWAYS

COLUMBUS, OH - Governor Bob Taft today announced $550,000 in grants
to 30 Ohio law enforcement agencies for their boating safety and enforcement
efforts on state waterways.
"Marine Patrol Grants are critical to providing an increased law
enforcement presence on Ohio's many lakes, rivers and streams," Taft said.
"With these funds, local waterway enforcement programs can better provide
and support safe boating and recreational opportunities for everyone."
Funding for the grants comes from the Waterways Safety Fund, which
consists of watercraft registration and titling fees, a percentage of the
state gasoline sales tax and funding from the U.S. Coast Guard. A minimum
25 percent local match is required of grant recipients.
