BEGIN NEW OHIO BOATING SEASON WITH A SAFETY EDUCATION COURSE

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohioans interested in taking a refresher boating
safety course or those who need to comply with the state's mandatory boater
education law can find a course by visiting the Ohio Department of Natural
Resources (ODNR) web site at ohiodnr.com
The ODNR Division of Watercraft maintains a county-by-county listing
of approved boater education courses offered in Ohio. Novice as well as
experienced boaters may also choose to take an approved home study or online
boater education course. Boating education instructors must be certified by
the Division of Watercraft, U.S. Power Squadrons or U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary.
More than 12,000 Ohioans completed an approved boater education
course last year. Among that total were 6,888 individuals born on or after
January 1, 1982 and required by law to complete a boater education course
prior to operating a powerboat over 10 horsepower.
Boater education courses that are approved by the National
Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) are offered through
the Division of Watercraft, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power
Squadrons, the Boat/US Foundation and other boating partners.
