The western basin of Lake Erie is finally ice-free and spring fishing has started. Walleye fishing has been slow mostly due to reduced water clarity. As the water begins to warm and clear up expect fishing to improve. The best jig fishing has been in Maumee Bay, nearshore from Crane Creek to Locust Point, on the reefs of the Camp Perry firing range and off of Marblehead. Trollers have caught fish along the eastern cans of the Camp Perry firing range and around the Bass Islands. Use extreme caution when boating in 30 and 40 degree water temperatures.

Based on the nearshore forecast the water temperature off of Toledo is 45 and 37 off of Cleveland.
