Fishing report for the week of Sept. 26, 2010.

Not too much to talk about this week. I only got out a few days for the Perch. Couple of the days mid week when the weather was pretty good, I had no trips. And of coarse at the weeks end when everybody had trips, the weather turned to total crap ( again ) requiring me to cancel Fridays outing as well as Saturdays. Luckily late Saturday evening the winds eased a bit and we managed to get Sundays trip in anyway. This will not go down in my books as one of the better Septembers that's for sure. I think I lost more trips this month then I did all summer. I could have used a few more of these trips to help offset the tremendous repair bills I just got hammered with this month also. Oh well, such is life and the uncertainty when your livelihood revolves around the weather !

Perching remains real strong to the east of Ashtabula. Most boats have been just sacrificing the gas and just making the 18 mile run to Conneaut. It seems insane to go that far just for Perch but the Perch always seem to be there heavy and good sized ones to boot. Still though, I can't even imagine how many millions of Perch everyone is running over going back and fourth going to this "promised" land ! LOL With that in mind and a still unsettled lake Sunday morning, I decided just to hang around out front of Ashtabula Harbor. The first drop of the hook only yielded 4 small Perch after giving it about an hour. After making a minor move, we hit pay dirt and started picking some rather nice sized Perch. It was no burn but we went on to capture a 6 man limit of 180 Perch that weighed in at 80 lbs. Not bad ! Like I said, I can't even imagine how many Perch we've been running across...

I have not heard of any Walleyes being caught this past week but then again I think most of the fishing effort has been directed towards just the Perch. That and the weather has been less then picture perfect for any late season attempts. I have flat given up on it myself and have broken all the Walleye gear down for the 2010 season. It will now be either a Perch trip or nothing from here on out. I have been seeing some Steelhead jump in the Ashtabula River in the mornings while heading out to the open lake but oddly enough the few guys that are trying for them in the river have not done much yet either. I think it's going to take a good rain to get them moving about and get them a little more active. Too bad they don't school up a bit better just outside the break walls where I might be able to charter for these silver bullets. It's just too unpredictable to commit a group of anxious anglers to MAYBE catching some in my opinion.

So this is it. The final week of September. I actually have a pretty good schedule during the week this upcoming week with only one open date at this point, and that is this Tuesday, Sept.the 28th. Next weekend we STILL have Saturday October the 2nd available for a Perch charter. If anybody is interested, well everybody knows the drill by now. I am not that very hard to get a hold of. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get a few of these late season trips in for a change. I keep having flashbacks of last Octobers horrific weather where I never did get back out after the weather turned and lost every trip that I had booked in that final month. Hopefully that will not be the case this year. Only time will tell...
