Fishing report for the week of September 12, 2010.

A perfectly horrible weather week. And I think it really took it's toll on our Walleye fishing Well the magical ride that we were on most all of this summer pretty much came to a screeching halt. After loosing the past weekend Sat. & Sun. both to gale force winds, we managed to get out on Monday even though it was still rather rough. I was blessed with a short crew and only had a couple of people that I had to worry about. Perfect for a scouting trip after such a strong blow. Let me tell you, I thought we were going to get skunked ! We went for four hours straight without moving a rod ! I was actually just about to pull the plug and end the nonsense when we abruptly hit a nice little school of fish. We went on to catch 14 really nice Walleyes rather quickly to give the folks their limit and actually a couple of extras on my account that weighed in at an impressive average of 6.74 lbs a piece. A pretty amazing comeback!

Then came round two with the weather... I ended up cancelling Tue., Wed. and Thur. with winds again in excess of 30 knots and waves on Wed. to 10 foot. It just howled and howled all day and all night for three days and three nights straight. Unbelievable. We finally got a reprieve from the wind and waves on Friday but the damage was already done with the lake all stirred up and turned over. Unlike Monday where we eventually lucked out and hit a small patch and managed to capture what we needed even though we had such a dismal start, Friday we were not so fortunate and only ran across a handful of fish all day officially making it the worst day that we have had for the Walleyes this entire summer. Nobody else did much better on Friday. It was a delightfully pleasant weather day on the lake that day and my guys were real good sports about it after having had many previously successful trips aboard "The Trophy" in the years past, but it was still a hard pill to swallow. At least for me it was. And to think I had to do it all over again the next day ! YIKES !

Saturday morning rolled around and I was pleasantly surprised with yet another short crew of two guys. Hmmm, I must be living right or something ! LOL ! After explaining to them how tough the fishing for the Walleyes had become since the lake had rolled over and offering to just take them out Perch fishing, which is always a safer bet I was surprised and pleased to hear them say that they would like to take their chances and still try to catch a Walleye. Perfect ! And off we went. Friday we pretty much started due north by the Canadian line and trolled south all day with little to show for our efforts. Saturday I took it heavy east clear to the OH PA line out in 72 ft.of water on a whim just to check it out and BINGO ! We hit a nice small patch and went on to catch 18 Walleyes for the three of us in just a few hours. A little bit of luck ? I think so but such is fishing lots of times. This was not the mother load that we had been beating on for so long this summer but it was good enough. At least for a short crew it was. And just like I tell most of my crews, "we stumbled thru another one" LOL !

Sunday we ran our first scheduled Perch Charter of the year and again under very rough lake conditions, it went extremely well ! After running 20 miles one way most every day for so long, I figured why stop now ? So I cranked it way out to Conneaut to the east which is almost always a sure thing for Perch and once again, GAME ON ! We captured 7 limits totaling 210 Perch in about 3 hours actual fishing time, It sure is weird to just kick back and watch people catch fish after running around on the deck all summer like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to keep all the trolling gear going ! Gee, I could get to liking this ! Come to think of it, I'm going to have too... that's about all I have scheduled now . LOL ! We still have plenty of open days to choose from now and we can even still try to go Walleye fishing... if you're feeling lucky because I think that's what it's going to take from here on out for them ! But Perch fishing season is OFFICIALLY HERE ! So give me a call and LET'S GO FISHING !
