BEST First day of Smallmouth Bass 6/12/2004

The first day of bass started with a light southeast wind and a drastic drop in water temperature from 63 a couple days ago to a now 47. The bass action was great at Shades Beach.

Many perch anglers could be heard on the radio how bad the fishing was with the water temperature drop. The bass action continued with a nice 20+ inch fish making the cooler.

The good bite was like early May of hot action and big bass.

20 to 25 feet depth was the best action in the cold water.

As we moved to the east more the wind swung around now to the north east making for some great drifting along the ledges at Shorewood. Paul fought another 20+ for the cooler.

The day ended quickly with a nice quad on the lines causing the final Chinese fire drill of the day. Bass were the only fish caught this day all on Golden Shiners. The six anglers had one of the best first days that I have seen. All big fish! Drifting for Smallmouth bass is superb!
