WEST ERIE COUNTY, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert Conditions: The heavy rains from last week raised the trib levels and brought a significant number of steelhead in, however, as dry as conditions have been, it didn’t take long for water levels to drop back to near the pre rain levels. Moderate precipitation this week should be helpful. Crowds were heavy this past weekend with the arrival of the rain. Catch rates were moderate to good. There are good numbers of fish in the tribs, but still not at the levels of last year. The Trout Run nursery waters are loaded with fish and are often a good indication as to the number of fish running in the tribs. Anglers have been out in force trolling the shorelines off the mouths of Walnut, and Trout and Godfrey runs. Catch rates have been fair to good. Fish have been mainly confined to the larger holes up stream and the access areas near the mouth. Lake shore fishing at Trout and Godfrey Runs has been good although we have seen pretty rough conditions over the last week. Bass anglers have been having some success on Presque Isle Bay when the weather cooperates. Lake Erie water temperature as of this writing is 51 degree off Toledo, 55 degrees off Cleveland, and 56 degrees off Erie. The West Erie County tribs are very low and clear as of this writing. Cases included littering, fishing without a license, Lake Erie permit violations, fishing in nursery waters, snagging, unlawful fish disposition and multiple over limit cases.
