Erie WCO Fishing Report / February 2001

Steelhead still providing action…
The Walnut Creek Project Waters continue to provide fishing opportunity
throughout the winter. White sucker spawn flies have been working well. This
project keeps paying dividends week after week with ample steelhead promising
to be available through April. Elk Creek also has been good with the
Railroad Tubes and Legion Park being heavily fished. Any open water on the
tribs should be just as good.

WCO Bowser returns to work…
February marks the completion of recovery and a return to work. I am
uncertain how the 20 pounds of insulation I lost will affect my ability to
handle the Erie winter weather but will soon find out. Thanks again to the
other WCO's & West County Deputies that provided coverage in my absence.

Lake Erie Walleye Regulations…
I have received many emails & phone calls regarding the spring shoreline
walleye fishery. There will be no changes to the seasons or limits on Lake
Erie Walleye in the year 2001. A public meeting to discuss this issue &
possible changes will be held in Erie during the month of March (tentatively
on the 19th). Exact date, time, & place will be announced shortly.

Late Winter In-Season Trout Stocking …
Lake Pleasant is scheduled to be stocked "the week of" February 12th.
The Fairview Gravel Pit is scheduled to be stocked "the week of" February
19th.
These waters are part of the Winter Stocked Lakes Program and will remain
open to legal fishing though March 31st. The creel limit during this time
period is 3 trout/day with a minimum size limit of 7" in these waters.
Anglers should exercise caution due to varying ice conditions.
