Recent rain has brought the creeks up to good levels. Additional steelhead have moved into the already crowded streams and action should be fantastic over the next few weeks if the ice holds off. Local forecasts indicate more precipitation over the next week or so.For our Ohio friends....Conneaut Creek is holding steelhead near the P and C Dock Company as well as in the Harbor itself. Shore anglers are doing well off the West break walls, both on the inner and outer walls out to the light house. Cleos in chartreuse and silver, 3/8 oz. to 1/2 oz. will land them. Perch are in 62 to 64 feet of water along the Pennsylvania and Ohio line. In Ohio, 30 fish limits have been caught in less then and hour. Pennsylvania anglers have been consistently limiting out with their 20 as well. Emerald shiners, the bait of choice, have been readily available at local bait shops. Remember that all anglers must carry the appropriate fishing license. The PA/OH Line is 80:31:10 Extreme caution should be exercised when boating the Lake this time of year. Weather and wave conditions can change dramatically in a short time. Wind and weather should be carefully checked before boating. Colder water temperatures dictates that PFD's always be worn. The 2001 Pennsylvania fishing licenses may be displayed & used as early as December 1, 2000. With the holiday season fast approaching, fishing licenses make wonderful gifts to introduce that special friend or family member to fishing. Many trophy fish have been caught with the large runs this year. Often we are asked how to care for the catch to before taking it to the taxidermist..... 1) Carry a dark colored trash bag to cover your catch. Outdoor light will quickly discolor the fish. 2) A few streamside close up pictures of your trophy can help your taxidermist achieve a more precise and natural looking mount. 3) Carry a small container of Borax in a zip lock bag and sprinkle on the fish before placing it in the bag. This helps to set the color of the fish and will allow the taxidermist to use a minimal amount of paint making the mount more natural. 4) If you cannot get to the taxidermist immediately, do not clean or gut the fish. Instead, place it intact in the freezer until it can be transported. Gently place each fin between 2 pieces of cardboard to protect them from damage. Wrap the fish in a damp towel and then wrap in plastic before freezing. Officer Bowser's recovery continues to amaze his friends and fellow officers. His speedy return will be appreciated by all.
