Not able to fish during the day? ... NO PROBLEM IN WEST COUNTY!! Nighttime action has been great! Night fishing can be a more relaxing, less stressful type of angling. It offers excellent results, plenty of elbowroom & a great adventure for the kids.LOCATIONS:
The Walnut Creek Project Water offers good nighttime fishing from the mouth to the Manchester Hole and is easily accessible.
Elk Creek offers good night fishing from the boat access area all the way to the lake.
The lakeshore at Trout Run is productive when the lake is calm enough
Avonia Marina at Trout Run is open to fishing all night for a small fee and offers refreshments, facilities, and handicapped access. RULES:
Open fires are not permitted in any of these areas....
Fishing is only permitted from the West Bank of Manchester Hole.
Anglers must stay 50 yards away from the mouth of Trout Run between 10:00 PM and 5:00 am.
No fishing south of Route 5 on the West Side tributaries from 10 PM to 5 AM (fishing "inside" of Rt. 5 tubes is permitted) ... If fish are cleaned along the stream then entrails should be "bagged" and disposed of properly. Poor Richard's Bait Shop is an officially licensed cleaning station and offers cleaning & storage of catch for out of town visitors. TIPS:
A good lantern with a shield on the streamside will provide all the light needed and minimize spooking the fish.
Scented baits are the ticket at night with low visibility. Try nightcrawlers, minnows, grubs, waxworms, skein, and of course chartreuse Powerbait.
Baits should be fished on the bottom.
Lighted floats to detect strikes can be helpful.
Heavier lines of up to 8 # test can be used at night.
Glow in the dark Cleos can be deadly when casting from shore into the lake.
Dress warm, pack a snack and hot drink and your favorite folding chair and be sure to clean up your area when you leave.
