I spent Saturday morning hunting new grounds. I went to the tip of the first trench then on a line directly north to the 72 ft. mark and back to the tip of the second trench. Then we went to the hump on a straight line and swung north through the large loop that the map shows for the second trench. We never got into schools until we hit north of the second trench. We found pockets of Walleye from 10-12 miles off of Walnut. Catching came from 48-72 ft. Really, we caught them on the bottom and when they came up to feed we caught them in the 48 ft range. Bottom we got them on blades of black/purple and trout. Up high we got action on any of the normal colors for bright conditions and dark conditions. I used big dipseys, no ring, 150 ft back to get 50 ft down on my rigs. I mainly use glo, big dipseys, but got one on a medium black/purple dipsey 225 ft. back in with a black/purple blade. No patern was established for the most part. Saturday we got 5 in two hours then had to leave. Sunday we got three in 3 hours and away we went. East wind is tough, but when you graph fish up high, mark them on your loran and get on them furiously. They will hit if you circle them and stutter troll with the right combo and depth-even in an east wind condition. You just have to make them hit. Talk sweet, troll with perfection and you will be rewarded. GB, Jerry |
