Crawford County WCO Fishing Report - WCO Joe Russell Pymatuning lake- some walleye are still being caught from shore around the rock wall just north of the Game Commission visitor center. Several anglers limited out there in the last couple of days. Bluegills and bass are still doing well in shallows and try around the stumps. The trap net reports are out for the lake and the results are as follows. In 89 sets over 6,300 fish were caught. Walleye were 44% of the total catch (2,816 walleye) and ranged in size from 7 to over 26 inches. Legal size walleyes were 64.7% of the total walleye catch. However 75% of the catch was in the 13.75 to 16.75 inch size. Nice numbers of yellow perch (729) and black crappie (357) were also caught. Muskellunge catches were off this year; only 24 musky were caught ranging in size from 9.75 inches to over 47 inches. With these results it looks like the fishing will be good for at least another year. Linesville Creek guys are picking up some pretty big bass by floating a minnow under a bobber around dark. You have to get there early though as space is limited. People are also asked to carry out what they carry in so that the area doesn't get too trashed up. That is the way we lose access to streams. Conneaut Lake- Boating activity picked up and fishing dropped off this weekend but some anglers were still doing well with the bluegills in the backwaters. Northerns were being picked up off of some of the docks as well. The better fishing now seems to be during the week when the pleasure boat activity slows. _________________________________________________________________ Erie County WCO Report … WCO John Bowser & Dwco Randy Leighton Yellow Perch continue to be the big story out of Walnut Creek Access Area… the hotspot is about 2 miles Northwest of the Mouth at Loran #'s 28877 & 58370 or for the GPS crowd 42:08 & 80:18. Just look for the pack of boats sitting over the school of fish. A surprising number of Safety Equipment violations were detected by officers at the Walnut Ramp this past weekend. The first nice weather must of made everyone rush to the water without first checking to be sure all needed equipment was on board and in serviceable condition. Remember that the fine should be the "least" of your concern… you are risking your life and the lives of your loved ones by not having required items. .Diving season is getting started. The numerous wrecks off the Erie Shoreline and clear water conditions have made diving a popular past time. Make yourself aware of the flags signifying a diver in the water and steer clear of these boats. A diver down flag is displayed from a float during diving operations. This flag is red with a white diagonal stripe running from the top of the staff to the opposite lower corner. The code flag alpha is a blue and white pennant and boats must display this flag during dive operations if they are restricted in their ability to maneuver. Boats not engaged in diving operations shall remain at least 100 feet from areas displaying the diver down flag, or boats displaying the code flag alpha.
