Well, it was yet another tough week where we had to work really hard on all of our trips to put some Walleyes on the boat. The crazy weather pattern this spring where it’s been very warm one day and below normal the next day has been going on for several weeks. The one thing that has been a constant is the wind. It just seems to blow all of the time. The only thing that changes is the direction once in a while. I just know that if we ever get any stable weather for a few days; the whole western basin is going to light up.

It’s been a long time since I had to work this hard and run as many miles as we did not to mention the extra time I gave the guys to make sure everybody still had a great experience. Although we didn’t limit out any day this past week, we still caught enough fish to hold our heads up high when we came in. Everyone was a great sport about the tough fishing and I think we all still had a good time. Such is fishing.

The best action for us was definitely trolling. I spent most of my time trolling up around North Bass Island. For us, Jet Divers fished off of the boards did the best although we also caught some on bottom bouncers and night crawlers. In my opinion, the jigging bite is completely over now. A few fish are still being caught around all of the reefs but most of these are now being taken on worms. I’m still seeing a few really nice Smallmouth being caught although now that we have quit jigging, the numbers have dropped off for us. More and more Sheephead are starting to show up as the water warms to the mid 50’s.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate and things will return to normal for all of us. Stay tuned.

Capt. Walt
