Walleye Fishing Report for Maumee and Sandusky Rivers
April 23, 2003

Maumee River - 56°F, water is cloudy & the level is low. Anglers are still catching good numbers of male walleye 22”-24”. Anglers are also starting to catch an occasional white bass. Anglers are using floating jigs about 24 inches from 1/2 to 1 oz sinker. Tip jigs with various colored plastic tails. Best areas are the Island at Sidecut & Buttonwood (Wood County side) & the Flats (Sidecut & Jerome Rd.) Outlook is good. Fishing could pick up if we get some rain.

Sandusky River - 56°F, normal and walleye fishing is nearly over. Anglers are catching some white bass but has slowed down with the cold front. Fishing may improve by the end of the week as temperatures improve. Best areas to fish are from Hayes Street Bridge to State Street Bridge. Best baits are floating jigs tied about 12 to 18 inches below a weight. Tip the jig with plastic tails – chartreuse or any other bright color. Outlook is good.
