Western Basin

Walleye
Where:Walleye fishing has been excellent at the Gravel Pit west of West Sister Island, off Magee Marsh, near the northern and eastern cans of the Camp Perry firing range as well as around some of the reefs of the Camp Perry firing range reef complex, around Green Island, east of Kelleys Island in 40 feet of water, and north of Kelleys Island between Kelleys Island Shoal and Gull Island Shoal.
How: Anglers trolling are using worm harnesses with inline weights, divers or bottom bouncers, and spoons pulled behind divers. Anglers casting are using mayfly rigs or are drifting with bottom bouncers and worm harnesses.

Yellow Perch
Where: Yellow perchhave been caught around "F" can of the Camp Perry firing range, Rattlesnake Island and off Kelleys Island Shoal.
How: Perch spreaders with shiners fished near the bottom produce the most fish.

Smallmouth Bass
Where: Smallmouth bass are being caught around island shorelines in less than 25 feet of water. How: Smallmouth bass have been caught on tube jigs and also using crankbaits or jerkbaits.

Largemouth bass
Where: Largemouth bass are being caught in the harbors and bays in the western basin.
How: Largemouth bass are being caught using crankbaits, spinner baits and soft plastics.


The Lake Erie water temperature is 67 off Toledo and 50 off Cleveland according to the nearshore marine forecast.

Anglers are encouraged to always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device while boating.
