Regulations to Remember: Western Basin
Walleye Where: Anglers trolling are catching fish along the northern cans of the Camp Perry firing range, around the Bass Islands, around Kelleys Island, and in 30 to 40-feet of water from Huron to Lorain. Anglers jigging are still catching fish on the reefs of the Camp Perry firing range and in Maumee Bay; although, jig fishing will be ending shortly as fish migrate away from spawning areas. How: Anglers trolling have caught fish using deep diving crankbaits such as Rapala deep husky jerks and Reef Runners, as well as with worm harnesses using inline weights, divers or bottom bouncers. Hair jigs tipped with emerald shiners are the most popular jigging lures. Smallmouth Bass Where: Smallmouth bass are being caught around island shorelines in less than 20-feet of water. How: Smallmouth bass are being caught on tube jigs and on crankbaits or jerkbaits. Largemouth bass Where: Largemouth bass are being caught in harbors and bays in the western basin. How: Largemouth bass are being caught using crankbaits, spinner baits and soft plastics.
