I know that I am late on this, but I wanted to hold off until the last chance of ice. The ice is very questionable since last weeks warm up. It's created more open areas and very poor conditions. There are a few reports of PIB guides still going out, but I would be questioning the operations. The bay is in poor condition and if there is anywere to fish up here, it's sitting on my dock fishing through a hole for panfish, which I might do this weekend.
With the warming temps, the spring fishing should start in the rivers by mid-March.
I plan to put an airboat in operation next year, but I will still have the quads.
Just an update on what happen this winter: the ice came in early, solid, and water was clear, but the shad was the problem. But we were not the only ones that had that problem. I met and talked with several ice anglers over the season and they came from Green Bay, Saginaw Bay, Erie PA,Monroe MI. and different areas of the state. They were having the same problems with the shad population and no walleyes being caught. Mother Nature has a way on checking off issues and maybe the catch will be better next year.
Good Fishin
