Well it's not new news that the walleyes are being caught off of Crane Creek. I finally went out there yesterday, limited, and was heading back by 11 a.m.
Although I know the fishing was slow for alot because there was alot of moving on the ice. You have to be more careful than normal on the ice in this location. There is several areas of push ice, again a big crack that will go with a good south wind and 6-7 inches of ice to 2-3 inches. The parking fills very early and they are going out in the dark!!!
Off of Catawba State Park very little activity, saturday I fished inside the 911 crack with 8-9 inches of ice. The menu of the day was smelt and perch. This area will be the last area to go in a few weeks. The south passage is open and they are still catching eyes over at the islands.
As long as we do not have a south wind we should still have a few days of fishing left. Remember, don't get caught on a flow and 2-28-10 is the last day for the 2009 license, new license are on sale now at Rickards Bait and they have a good supply of bait/tackle. Be safe, watch the ice, and carry those ice picks.
We start running the boats just after ice out and we are booking for the year.
