Good afternoon from my warm home here in Port Clinton. Although I would like to be out fishing on the ice on the main lake, but Mother Nature has other ideas right now. The current conditions are very poor right now, with warm temps forcast for the weekend with winds. If the ice holds in and cool temps due to return this week, we might have a chance to get some icefishing in within the next few weeks.

I have received very poor ice reports from guides as far north as Saginaw Bay were they lost a few anglers through the ice last week.

We had one quad lost through the ice a week ago friday. He was on an airboat pad and went through an airboat breakthrough. On sunday I almost went through another airboat break but saw it just in time to miss it. The airboats that are running are privite and they have no concern for anyone as far as safety on the ice. They are creating hazards went not marking the ice were they break through. Those breaks re-freeze and create a hazard to vehicles and walkers that are coming back from their trips or going out the following day. Right now the best way to be safe is stay off any airboat pad while traveling on the ice. Those boats are heavy and right now the best ice I saw was between 5-7 inches and that was last weekend.

They are still fishing the bay and East Harbor for panfish as well as the docks and catching reports are spotty. Until we get some more cold weather in that the safest bet.

I am still taking names for this ice fishing season, but of course it's still on hold and the equipment is ready.

Good Ice Fishin'
