Well, the weekend is here and there is a good pile of snow on the ice from the wednesday storm. Just remember that it will insulate the ice and make it soft. The paths are covered, but they should be made again before the end of the weekend. There is one close to the cliffs and the other that goes out around the dock at Catawba State Park.

There has been alot of air traffic to the islands over the past few days, which means the fishing at the islands is in full swing. Remember to book your air seat and show up early for the flight over to the islands. The forcast is still cold and light snow for the next week.

The packs of shanties have moved north to northwest of Catawba over the last few days. There is a good current in the a.m. and it settles down as the day goes. The water clarity is about 6 feet or more and the fish are moving every day. The catches have been spotty, but some nice fish are coming into the park. Remember, the size limit is 15" and the game wardens are checking anglers very closly.

Lastly, the ice is between 8-10 inches with it being thinner in the passage. Remember the current can cut the ice overnight. Rickards Bait and Tackle has some new ice fishing supplies and plenty of minnows for now. Hopefully the ice will stay for another month.

I plan to still run for the next month, just give me a call on availablities, 1-877-434-9711

Good fishin
Capt Bob Hughey
