Although you might want to hear about the economics of a charter captain business and how they did last year and that's ok. But I'm focused on fishing and catching some nice "ice eyes" right now.

Two things have finally come together this winter season. One is the weather, it has given us ice since Thanksgiving Day and very good ice since this cold snap. The second is that Rickard's Bait and Tackle open this saturday for the ice season.

Last week a few ice fishermen were directed off the ice by the Coast Guard and Catwaba Fire and that was their mistake. They went out into the passage were there is soft ice and heavy current.

By mid week you will start to see shanties on the main lake. Right now they are fishing the main bay and the smaller bays and docks.

I will start around mid week on the main lake. I plan to run from Catawba State Park to Crane Creek for the ice season. The water should be very fishable, but remember their are alot of current cuts on the main lake that can put you through.

I will be running a two man shanty along with my rig and if you are interested feel free in contacting me on the openings along with the ice condition at 1-877-434-9711.

I will be updating the ice eyes and conditions next week

Good fishin
Capt Bob Hughey
